Week 6 – Underground Comics by Women (3 points)

    I read about 75% of Tits and Clits. Some of it was too much for me and I need some eye bleach now. Something that I was thinking while reading these raunchy stories by women and for women, was What is the modern equivalent of this? To which I cannot answer. I do not think women have changed at all, there will always be a female audience for sexual content, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a compilation of images as specific and vast as this. My only guess is that sexual content is much more widely available, even in mainstream television. Game of Thrones has scenes that match those in Tits and Clits. And again, much adult animation matches the style and vulgarity of these comics, although they may not be as purposefully sexual. There is also the obvious answer of porn being much more widely available through the internet, so no one needs to purchase sex magazines anymore.

    Something that I noticed throughout these stories is there are many, many, tales of women actually enjoying and seeking out sex. This is still very rare in modern media. If a woman is lusty, 99% she is a villain or a secret temptress who must be stopped. It is nice to see an expression of female desire that isn’t demonized in these stories. This returns to the idea of underground comics being a space for who are unheard or underrepresented, this time being for, frankly, horny women.
